R120 Million Achieved For Clifton Residence A property situated in Nettleton Road, Clifton, Cape Town - the most expensive residential street in South Africa – has been sold to a local buyer for R120 million. The deal was concluded by the same Dogon Group team that achieved the record-breaking sale of a Bantry Bay home for R290 Million in 2016. Denise Dogon, CEO of Dogon Group Properties, explains that this six bedroom, seven level residence was designed by award winning architect Stefan Antoni of SAOTA and features, among many other things: a private cinema, a wine cellar, an office, gymnasium, massage room and steam room, a library, a floating bar, staff accommodation and an infinity pool which gives the illusion of flowing into the sea. “The Villa stands on nearly 1000m2 on the slopes of Lion’s Head, enjoying uninterrupted views of Clifton’s famous beaches and the 12 Apostles mountains. Its location, nestled in the unparalleled beauty of the Atlantic Seaboard, coupled with the design, fixtures and finishes makes this a rare home of a standard that is not easy to come by.” Dogon goes on to explain that during the winter months, the Dogon Group’s sales statistics have proven to be far more buoyant than expected, with sales averaging between R100 million and R200 million per month overall. “All areas, namely the Atlantic Seaboard, Southern Suburbs and the V&A Waterfront have experienced an increase in sales compared to the same winter months last year.” “Cape Town is experiencing local demand, and the influx of people from other provinces is bolstering the market.” These factors are also driving the rental market in Cape Town, and Dogon Group Properties can attest to this with the recent signing of a lease contract for an estate in Constantia for R450 000 per month and for a house in Bantry Bay for R220 000 per month. “I am optimistic that the Cape Town property market will remain buoyant throughout 2018 despite the economic and political instability. Cape Town will continue to grow as a result of continued large scale migration to the city from other metros.”

Amazon opens plant-filled 'The Spheres' buildings nternet giant Amazon on Monday, 29 January, opened its plant-packed The Spheres buildings in its home city of Seattle. The Spheres are the newest addition to Amazon's "urban campus" in Seattle, and are billed as a workplace "more like a tropical rainforest in the clouds than an office". The structures, which look like giant glass and steel balls, house more than 40,000 plants and include features such as treehouse meeting rooms, a river and waterfalls. "Our goal with The Spheres was to create a unique gathering place where employees could collaborate and innovate together, and where the Seattle community could gather to experience biodiversity in the centre of the city," John Schoettler, Amazon's vice president of global real estate and facilities, said in a statement. "We are thrilled to officially open the doors." The Spheres were designed to provide a link to nature typically lacking in urban offices, and one which studies suggest inspires creativity and might even enhance brain functioning, according to Amazon. A visitor centre called The Understory will be open to the public and provide insight into the science, engineering and plants at the facility. "These unique buildings are so much more than a beautiful creative space for Amazon employees," Washington State governor Jay Inslee said in a statement. "They will help conserve a number of rare plant species from around the world and provide countless educational opportunities for local students." The largest of the three joined spheres is over 27 metres tall and 39 metres in diameter. There are no closed office spaces, with collaboration taking place along paths or in tree houses. "Plants, trees, sunlight, soil, and water take centre stage - the sound of running water and the scent of flowering plants create an instant botanical immersion that takes visitors far away from the urban landscape," Amazon said. Amazon's quest for a second North American headquarters has thrust 20 cities into a cutthroat "Hunger Games" style contest. The technology and lifestyle powerhouse this month narrowed its list of candidates from 238 applications for the prize, which could provide an estimated $5bn in investments and 50,000 new jobs. Amazon expects to announce a decision later this year on "HQ2", which will be equal to its Seattle headquarters, and is asking the finalists to refine their pitches.
